The Shawshank Redemption

I saw Shawshank Redemption for the umpteenth time and found out some more new things in the film. Anyone who has not seen this film should see it for the sheer brilliance of the script. The writer knew exactly what he wanted to say and how he wanted to say it. It is no wonder that Hollywood works so hard on their scripts, because ultimately the script is the real hero of a film- any film.
It's a story of a person, falsely convicted for a crime he has not committed. It is the journey of this person in prison, the various hardships he has to go through, yet the positive attitude he tries to keep throughout his long stay in jail, endearing himself to the other prison inmates. But 'every man has a breaking point' as Red says in the film, which is true for our hero too. The one message that I get out of this film is, 'never, never, never give up' no matter what.

In the 1994 Academy Awards the movie was nominated for seven awards (Best Picture, Best ActorMorgan Freeman, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Score, and Best Sound) but, in the shadow of 1995's big winner Forrest Gump, failed to win a single one.
